On Sunday, March 12, the morning worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church was canceled due to inclement weather. The children’s church and the morning worship service at 11 will resume on Sunday, March 19. Guest speaker for the worship service will be Frank Root of Staunton. The weekly four-cents-a-week offering will be collected with funds donated to purchase food supplies for the Effinger Community’s Rise Against Hunger packing day to be held in June 2024.

Donations may be mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450. Please designate gifts for Rise Against Hunger.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s Cemetery Committee asks that all live and artificial flower arrangements, decorations, and other items be removed from gravesites to facilitate mowing of the cemetery grounds. The date for removing such items each year is March 15. Items remaining on the graves or ground surrounding the tombstones or grave markers will be removed by Cemetery Committee personnel.

On Saturday, March 18, members of the Collierstown United Methodist Women in Mission will participate in a Lenten breakfast at the Augusta Street United Methodist Church in Staunton from 9 a.m. until noon.

The Effinger Ruritan Club is sponsoring a community roadside cleanup day this Saturday, March 18. Volunteers and club members are asked to assemble at the Palmer Community Center at 9 a.m. to receive trash collection bags and road assignments. In the event of inclement weather, the roadside cleanup day will be postponed until Saturday, March 25. Area residents are encouraged to join the club’s efforts by picking up trash and cleaning the roadways around their property lines, churches and other locations.

As the celebration of Easter approaches, the community churches are providing a variety of activities and special services. Information from each congregation will be shared in this column as it becomes available.

The Collierstown United Methodist Charge will have a combined Holy Thursday service for community residents and the Mt. Horeb and Collierstown congregations on Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m. at the Collierstown Church. On Friday, April 7, a combined Good Friday service will be held at the Mt. Horeb Church at 7 p.m. This year’s Easter Sunrise Service will be held at The Seclusion at 7 a.m. on April 9 with a breakfast to follow at the Collierstown United Methodist Church. The combined Easter morning worship service will be held at 9 a.m. at the Collierstown church.
