Larry Preston “Barney” Shafer, 75, of Buena Vista passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023. 

He was born April 3, 1947, in Rockbridge County, the son of Milton Russell “Barney” Shafer and Frances Wheeler Shafer.

He was a member of Grace Chapel Church and had retired from the Buena Vista School system where he was a custodian.

In addition to his parents, He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Milton F. “Bo” Shafer and Kenneth B. “Kenny” Shafer.

He is survived by one brother, Roger Dale “Hop” Shafer; many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews; and special sister-in-law, Betty Geraldine Shafer.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel by Pastor Butch Grow and Pastor Tommy Johnson. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
