Five Parry McCluer High School basketball players – three girls and two boys – were awarded all-region honors last week.
For the PM girls, senior post player Anna Claytor was named to the all-region first team. During her fouryear career with the Fighting Blues, Claytor scored 1,174 points and pulled down more than 500 rebounds. Earlier this month, Claytor was named Pioneer District player of the year.
PM girls named to the alldistrict second team were junior guard Payton Emore and sophomore guard Victoria Hamilton.
For the PM boys, senior forward John Snider was selected to the all-region first team, and junior guard Evan Cook was named to the all-region second team.
Under the direction of head coach Adam Gilbert, the PM girls went 22-3 overall this season, going 8-1 in the Pioneer District, overcoming Eastern Montgomery in the district tournament to win their third consecutive district tournament title. The Blues also won the district regularseason title. PM’s season concluded with a 54-50 loss to Fort Chiswell in the Region 1C semifinals.
Guided by first-year head coach Tyler Kerr, the Fighting Blues boys bounced back from a 2-5 start to the season to go 17-10 overall and 10-2 in the Pioneer District to finish second in the district. The Blues concluded their season with a 75-48 loss to George Wythe in the Region 1C semifinals.
