On March 4, three members of the Educators Rising Club traveled to Deep Run High School to compete in the Educators Rising State Leadership Conference and Competition. Senior Jake Cline placed second in lesson planning and delivery of the arts. Senior Mayliah Hickling placed first in impromptu speaking, and junior Cheyanne Clark placed first in lesson planning and delivery for CTE classes.

On March 14, the RCHS Chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 46 new members into the school’s chapter. To be selected for membership in the National Honor Society, students are judged based on their scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Congratulations to David Aladzeme, Yusuf Aliyev, Rebekah Allen, Alyson Bell, Bryce Bell, Sierra Bowles, Jack Brown, Liam Courtney-Collins, Taina Covington, Ella Culp, Grace Fleshman, Addison Flint, Eleanor Goodhart, Magdelena Greer, Kaylee Hagenbuch, Alexandra Hall, Haylie Hite, Emily Humphreys, John Jensen, Madison Jones, Madeyln Jones, Maddox Jordan, Lydia Kendall, Josephine Kuehner, Charles Lowney, Morgan Martin, Ryan Maxwell, Andrew McCoy, Eliot McDonald, Faith Mohr, Rowan Moles, Willow Moles, Keely Newman, Lauren Owens, Spencer Pfaff, Drew Potter, Brianna Roberts, Aiden Rogers, Sofia Smith, Quincy Speers, Jackson Speers, Roman Stanley, Hannah Stephens, Cameron Terry, and John Welsh for their induction into the National Honor Society.

After the completion of the 11th grade Writing SOL on March 7 and 8, a field test was conducted by the Virginia Department of Education, which was administered to junior students. This field test resembled the SOL that the students had just taken; however, both parts were administered to students on the same day. The goal of this field test was to determine if both parts of the test could be administered to future students on the same day, and still receive the same scores.

The theater department will be presenting its version of the musical “Chicago: Teen Edition” from March 23 through the 25 in the RCHS auditorium. Each show will begin at 7 p.m., and tickets will be $8 at the door and children 5 and under enter for free.

The RCHS Student Art Show is currently being held at Earth, Fire, and Spirit Gallery in downtown Lexington. The show will be open until the end of March. At the end of March, a separate art show will be held in the RCHS commons for student artwork to be displayed.
