The Southern Virginia University Chamber Singers will present their culminating concert of the academic year entitled, “Restoration: An Expression of Faith Concert,” at the Lexington Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 4, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
As the conclusion of a year-long musical exploration of identity, enduring joy, and discipleship, this concert will center on the traditions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In two parts, the concert will convey both a traditional worship service and the daily application of making and honoring covenants unique to Latterday Saint doctrine.
“Highlighting our shared heritage within the culture and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints seemed the natural conclusion to what has been an extremely fulfilling season of singing” said Director of Choral Activities Dr. Kyle Nielsen. “There are some lovely settings of Latter-day Saint hymns and scripture, but more so an emphasis on how we, as a people, come to find the divine.”
“It feels very true to the mission of our University to utilize timeless settings by Runestad, Esenvalds, Caroline Shaw, and other masters to explore timeless texts — both sacred and secular — to communicate both who we are and who we strive to be,” Nielsen continued.
