Adamson Purchases Former Grand’s Building

The former Grand Home Furnishing’s building has a new owner.

John Adamson, who owns a number of properties in downtown Lexington, purchased the building from Grand Piano & Furniture Company on March 2 for more than $1.9 million.

The ownership is held by Grand Building LLC, of which Adamson is the registered agent. Adamson also owns buildings at 115 W. Nelson St., 109 S. Jefferson St., and the old courthouse build- ing and jail, all of which he rents to Washington and Lee University.

Adamson told The News-Gazette on Tuesday that he does not have any specific plans for the building at this time.

Drywall has been put up in the building to create space for window displays along Main and Washington streets. Lexington City Planner Arne Glaeser told The News-Gazette in an email that no other plans for work on the building have been submitted to his office.

The furniture store served the community for decades, and operated at the building at 1 S. Main St. for nearly 40 years, from Sept. 6, 1985, to Nov. 4 of last year. Prior to the move to South Main Street, the store was located at 24 N. Main St., the current home of the Napa Thai restaurant.
