GEORGIA BYERS

Georgia Humphreys Byers, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at her home.

Georgia Humphreys Byers, 88, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at her home.

Born on April 20, 1934, in Amherst County, she was one of the 10 children of Frank and Deanie Maddox Humphreys.

Georgia loved children and cared for many during her life. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and cooking for her family. She grew beautiful African Violets and heirloom Dahlias at the edge of her vegetable garden. She is remembered fondly by her grandchildren for the many adventures she provided and her wise and often hilarious advice.

She is survived by her husband and companion of 69 years, Billy Byers; her daughter, Ellen “Sue” Seaman (Freddie) of Vesuvius; a granddaughter, Karri Atwood (Lee) of Roanoke; a grandson, Joshua Seaman (Lindsay Grindstaff) of Rockbridge Baths; and two great-granddaughters, Lucy and Georgia Atwood. She is also survived by a brother, Lowell Humphreys of Montebello; and a sister, Shirlyn Satterwhite of Colleen.

It is her family’s hope that she is now reunited with lost friends and family and happily sparring with her sister Eunice. She will be dearly missed by those of us she left behind.

A graveside service was held at Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery on Tuesday, March 28.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450 and Rock Steady Boxing, c/o Staunton Augusta YMCA, 708 N. Coalter St., Staunton,

VA 24401.
