Martha Crawford of the Hillcrest Mansion Inn in Clifton Forge took home the first place Judges’ Choice and the People’s Choice awards for her Coffee Candy and Cream dessert at the Just Desserts 2023 event held recently by the Lexington Woman’s Club.
The second place Judges’ Choice prize went to Washington and Lee University Dining Services for their White Chocolate Mousse with Raspberry Gel and Lemon Curd, followed closely by Del-Licious Treats by Delorise Boateng with her Oreo Macarons with Milk Chocolate Ganache Filling that earned the third place Judges’ Choice Award.
The second annual fundraising event took place at the Virginia Horse Center and included a silent auction. The sold-out event featured creations by 19 entrants that included Washington and Lee University Dining Services, Southern Inn Restaurant, Culinary Ministry from Lexington Presbyterian Church, Old Lex Mercantile, CHEF’S Catering, Sarah’s Sweets, Eat My Treats, Full Circle Catering, Rockbridge Cake Shoppe, Let Them Eat Cake, Big Table Bake Shop, The Baker’s Rack, LLC, Abundant Life Café, Glo-Bowl Café, Pure Eats, The Georges, Del-Licious Treats by Delorise, Hillcrest Mansion Inn, and Ann Sauder.
The judges were the three area school superintendents: Rebecca Walters from Lexington City Schools, Phillip Thompson from Rockbridge County Schools and Tony Francis from Buena Vista City Schools. They gave the entrants and the volunteers from the Lexington Woman’s Club an A+ for an event well-planned.

The Lexington Woman’s Club has been serving Lexington and Rockbridge County since 1911. The club is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), which is one of the oldest and largest women’s service organizations in the world. It is dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service.
