The process of weaning babies, which begins with that first spoonful of solid food, will be the topic of discussion at the April 11 La Leche League meeting to be held at 10 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church on 40 Village Way.

Feeding breast milk for the first 6 months is advised by the Academy of Pediatrics after which solid foods can be gradually introduced. The Academy encourages mothers to continue nursing for at least one year to ensure the best health of their babies with the precious antibodies available in breast milk only.

Making the transition with solid foods can be fun and exciting for babies and moms, a spokeswoman said. Discussion about types of food, how long to wait in between introductions and why that is important will be reviewed.

All pregnant and nursing mothers with young children are welcome, and a lending library will be available. F or questions or directions or other breastfeeding concerns, call Cindy at (540) 463-9234 or (540) 460-3996 or (540) 4643110.
