VPAS Café Opening In Goshen

Program Offered Mondays At Library

Older individuals living in the Goshen area will soon have Valley Program for Aging Services activities in their home community.

A VPAS Cafe will operate at the Goshen Library on Mondays, beginning April 25. The Goshen Cafe will join those already in place in Buena Vista, Lexington and West Warm Springs.

The Goshen Cafe hours will be 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Each Monday will include “Cafe Fit” light exercises and a freshly prepared lunch. Other activities scheduled for the first few weeks include gardening, hobbies, healthy snacks, and scam prevention programs.

The Goshen Cafe will be hosted by Sharon Birckbichler, who also hosts the West Warm Springs Cafe. Several guest speakers are scheduled to share information and activities.

“I’m excited to be able to meet people living in the Goshen area, and to share these programs with them,” Birckbichler said.

The Goshen Library, located at 140 Main St., will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, April 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. to welcome those interested in the cafe and provide tours of its new location. VPAS representatives will be present to answer questions and provide a schedule of cafe activities.

“The Goshen Library is pleased and very happy to be partnering with VPAS on what we hope to be a longlasting relationship,” Goshen librarian Ruth Tolson noted. “The VPAS Cafe is just what we need for our seniors - a place where they can come to have a good time, have a meal and get informed all at the same time!”

The Goshen Cafe’s capacity is limited to eight individuals per day at this time. Participation is open to anyone 60 or older who is able to actively participate in activities and to see to their own needs. Because the cafe’s operation is supported by federal, state and local government funding, certain paperwork must be completed no later than an individual’s second cafe visit. There is no charge to attend, but voluntary donations are gratefully accepted.

Those wishing to attend the Goshen Cafe must make reservations no later than the Thursday preceding the day they wish to visit, to assure that a meal will be available for them. Reservations can be made by calling Sharon Birckbichler at (540) 8395604 or by email to [email protected].
