Saturday, April 8 – Parry McCluer High School junior Kovyk Chandler broke his own school record in the boys’ 3200-meter run at the University of Lynchburg High School Twilight Invitational on Friday in Lynchburg, and freshman Kyra Lee qualified by time for the Class 1 state meet in the girls’ 3200-meter run.
Chandler placed second of 12 runners in 9:31.01, nearly 14 seconds faster than the school record that he set last spring. He only trailed Franklin County’s Nathan Atchue (9:22.87) and finished well ahead of the third-place runner, Christiansburg’s Max Craig (9:48.64).
In the girls’ race, Lee placed fourth of eight runners in 13:09.5, a personal record.
