Tuesday, April 11 -- Harrisonburg defeated the Rockbridge County High School girls soccer team 9-2 in the Valley District opener for both squads in Lexington.
Ez Cardoso-Rodriguez poured in five goals for the Blue Streaks (4-2), including a first-half hat trick that helped the visitors claim a 4-0 lead by the intermission. Gali Santiago Henriquez, Addison Fornadel, Hannah O'Fallon and Margie Delcid Lopez also tallied goals for Harrisonburg, and Carolyn Hinshaw made six saves.
Madelyn Jones and Sophie Vaught notched second-half goals for the Wildcats (3-5). Jones' goal in the 59th minute made it 5-1, and -- following O'Fallon's penalty and two more Cardoso-Rodriguez markers -- Vaught would score in the 71st minute.
Sophia Perlozzo recorded 10 saves for RC, as the Blue Streaks outshot the 'Cats 29-14.
RC takes the field again next Tuesday, April 18, for a Valley District contest at Spotswood. Junior varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m.
