Parry McCluer High School senior girls basketball player Anna Claytor was named to the Virginia High School League Class 1 all-state second team on March 31.
During her four-year career with the Fighting Blues, Claytor, who played at both the guard and forward positions, scored 1,174 points and pulled down more than 500 rebounds. Last month, Claytor was named Pioneer District player of the year, and she was selected to the all-district and all-region first teams. Last year, Claytor was named to the all-state first team.
Under the direction of head coach Adam Gilbert, the PM girls went 22-3 overall this season, including 8-1 in the Pioneer District. The Blues overcame Eastern Montgomery in the district tournament to win their third consecutive district tournament title. The Blues also won the district regular-season title. PM’s season concluded with a 54-50 loss to Fort Chiswell in the Region 1C semifinals.
