All Ages Prom Planned In Baths April 29

Folks of all ages are invited to step back in time and make plans to attend an all-ages prom, to be held Saturday, April 29, at 6 p.m., at the Rockbridge Baths firehouse.

The Rockbridge Baths Community Organization is bringing back the dance hall days of Rockbridge County at this first free prom night and community supper. The RBCO holds various events throughout the year, such as exercise classes, road cleanups, picnics and its annual Free Market, but this is the first time they’ve held a “prom night.”

The organizer of the event, Kati Brantley, says that the idea was born during a conversation with friends about the dance hall days of the area, where couples could get dressed up, go to various public dance halls, enjoy a light meal and dance the night away.

“Sadly, that’s a bygone erapeople don’t do that anymore,” said Brantley. “For most of us, our high school dances and college dances are the end of it. But, everyone said they missed it. So, we decided to throw a prom that absolutely everyone can attend, and make it a free, community event. Our organization is all about connecting people, reaching out to members of our community, and making life better, so why not?”

The event includes a community supper, a photo booth for prom pictures, a wide selection of dancing music, soft drinks and cookies. All are encouraged to attend.

“This is not just for teenagers,” Brantley emphasizes. “This is for all ages- kids to age 100! And I can prove it – our prom king and queen are in their 80s. Imagine being all grown up, and someone asks you to the prom. How fun would that be?”

The organization, she said, is hoping to see folks of all ages from all over the county for the event.

There is no charge to attend, but RSVPs are requested, via email to RBCORSVP@gmail. com, or through the community organization website at www. rockbridgebaths.org. Those who attend are asked to dress accordingly – dress and tie. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by attentive parents throughout the evening. To pre-order a corsage and boutonniere set for the occasion for $15, contact Brantley at [email protected], or call (719) 3556036 and specify pink, red, or white flowers.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to assist with this event is encouraged to do so. Volunteers are needed for a minimal time commitment. Reach out to Brantley at the contact information given above.
