Elise Allen Montgomery, 91, of Buena Vista died April 14

 

Elsie Allen Montgomery, 91 years young of Buena Vista, passed away peacefully at her home Friday, April 14, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born May 21, 1931, in Buena Vista.  

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Franklin Linwood Montgomery; her parents Samuel Earl Allen and Cornelia Jane Coffey Allen; and siblings, Elizabeth Jennings, Mildred Hartless, Earl Allen, Carl Allen and Gary Allen.

Elsie was a member of Kerrs Creek Baptist Church.

She was blessed with four children, Debra Montgomery Reed (Darwin), Joyce Montgomery Jarvis, Gregory Montgomery Sr. (Diane), and Teresa Montgomery Mayo (Mike).  She was so proud of her seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, James C. Allen; many nieces and nephews, special friends, Beverly Ayers and Irene Carawan, and cousin, Calvin Coffey; and two special grandkitties, Bella and Loela.

There are no words to express how loving and special Elsie was.  She loved her family so much.  Elsie loved playing (music) guitar, banjo, piano, and accordion, as well as writing stories, songs and poems.  Elsie enjoyed baking and cooking, sewing and quilting, creating beautiful artistic creations and painting.  Elsie and Franklin enjoyed traveling around the country in their motor home, spending winters in Florida. She spent time as camp host at Glen Maury Park Campground.

A very special thanks is extended to Dr. Michael Henry at RHC and Rockbridge Area Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel. 

Flowers accepted or donations can be made in Elsie’s name to Furever Friends Lodge (Mary Huffman), 2463 Beech Avenue, Buena Vista.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
