April 14, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: Word is out. Clearly some folks enjoy what we call progress (which can also become sprawl), for that is good for business.
We do need jobs and there are ways for that to happen that don’t compromise our ecosystems. I love and prefer to see and feel the cool shade of trees in summer, love to think of all the wildlife contained in them. It’s fun when walking down Main Street in Lexington to see that there are some shrubs planted for beauty and shade, to know that people are paying attention to our climate’s needs and not cementing over what would be open spaces.
While we plan for growth, can we also plan for nature? What about the medians without trees, could trees planted be a cooling for our cities whose temps are well above the nearby forest lands” Yes, word is out that we are coming closer to a tipping point and extinctions.
