Tuesday, Jan. 17 -- The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team earned their ninth win of the season on Tuesday night. The Blues won 77-41 over their visiting Pioneer District opponents, the Craig County Rockets, in a district sweep.
In the first quarter, the Blues gathered an early lead that they maintained the entire game. By the end of the first quarter, Parry McCluer led 23-10.
In the second quarter, Craig County scored the first points to make it 23-12 on the scoreboard. The Blues responded by scoring 16 unanswered points to stretch their lead to 39-12. The Rockets only scored two more points before halftime, and the Blues led 47-14.
Parry McCluer’s Evan Cook scored the first points out of halftime for the Blues to begin a back and forth half. Craig County outscored Parry McCluer 16–14 in points in the third quarter, but it was not enough to catch the Blues who continued to lead 61-30.
The Rockets never closed the gap in the fourth quarter, and Parry McCluer continued to pile on the points to close the game 77-14.
Cook led the Blues with 17 points and five assists while Nathan Glass had 16 points.
The Blues will play again on January 20th at Narrows High School in a Pioneer District game. Junior varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the varsity team. You can read more here and see the full story and photos from this week’s action in our Jan. 25 newspaper.
