RC Wins Four Events At Harrisonburg Meet

With victories in four events, the Rockbridge County High School outdoor track and field teams performed well in a Valley District meet at Harrisonburg last Wednesday.

With victories in four events, the Rockbridge County High School outdoor track and field teams performed well in a Valley District meet at Harrisonburg last Wednesday.

Two RC junior girls, Deena Ludtke and Bri Marando, qualified for the Region 3C meet. Ludtke qualified by time in the 3200-meter run, winning in 12:13.29. Marando qualified by distance in the discus, winning with a throw of 98 feet, 4 inches. In the shot put, Marando, placed eighth with a toss of 25-4.

The RC girls won the 4 X 800meter relay in 11:08.01. Team members were Ludtke, Grace Rolon, Nicole Black and Dorothy Lewis.

Also winning the 4 X 800-meter relay were the RC boys, finishing in 9:21.94 with team members Andrew Brannon, Alexander Miller, Will Gibbs and Jordan Imler.

Many other athletes stepped up for the Wildcats. For the RC girls, Grace Rolon placed second in the 800-meter run in 2:34.5.

Nicole Black placed third in two races, the 1600-meter run (5:58.8) and the 300-meter hurdles (46.8 seconds), and finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 12-6.

Dorothy Lewis placed fifth in the 1600-meter run in 6:22.46 and finished seventh in the 800meter run in 2:50.31.

In the 100-meter dash, Evelyn McClung placed seventh in 15.09 seconds, and Madeline Doerfier finished 12th in 15.63, a personal record (PR).

Kate Holston came in seventh in the 400-meter dash in 1:15.05 and finished 10th in the 800meter run in 3:03.92.

Melissa Mejia placed 10th in the 200-meter dash in a PR time of 31.82 seconds and finished 16th in the 100-meter dash in 15.94.

Alice Gresham came in 10th in the 400-meter dash in 1:26.7 and placed 15th in the 200meter dash in 32.75.

Ieva Grundmane led RC in the long jump, placing 15th with a leap of 11-3, while Zhyasia Singleton finished 19th with a distance of 10-6.

Zhyasia Singleton placed seventh in the discus with a PR throw of 65-11 and finished 13th in the shot put with a toss of 22-2.

Leading the RC boys’ runners was Andrew Brannon, placing sixth in the 1600-meter run in 5:06.06, and teammate Will Gibbs followed in 15th in 5:27.71.

Konner Orebaugh placed 11th in the 400-meter dash in 59.01 and finished 12th in the 200-meter dash in 26.15. Alexander Miller came in 12th in the 800-meter run in 2:25.41 and finished 16th in the 1600-meter run in 5:31.73, and Jordan Imler placed 17th in the 800-meter run in 2:28.77.

Spencer Pfaff placed 18th in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.5, a PR, and Hunter Howald came in 21st in the 200-meter dash in 26.83.

Caden Culp placed 20th in the long jump with a leap of 14-1.25, and came in 28th in the 200-meter dash in a PR time of 27.85, and finished 30th in the 100-meter dash in 13.16.

Kellan Dorey led the RC boys’ throwers, placing eighth in the discus with a PR heave of 96-6 and finishing 21st in the shot put with a toss of 28-5. Howald came in 20th in the shot put with a throw of 28-6 and finished 21st in the discus with a PR heave of 76-6.

Today, Wednesday, the Wildcats will play host to Valley District rivals and other teams in their lone home meet of the season, starting at 5 p.m.
