The National Honor Society and the Executive Student Council will be hosting the annual Lip Sync Battle this Saturday, April 29. The doors will open at 5 p.m., and the show will start at 6 p.m. Tickets will be sold to students for $5 during lunch beginning three days before the show date, and they will be sold for $7 at the door on the day of the event. All proceeds that are made from the event will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The RCHS chapter of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) traveled to the State Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach April 14-16. Congratulations to junior Lily Sudar for placing first in Sports Nutrition and sophomore Kyrstin Allman in the Culinary Arts Decorated Cake Exhibit. Coming in second place was junior Rachel Bowyer in the Event Planning category and senior Evan Raynor in the Culinary Math category. Third place was awarded to seniors Hailie Irvine and Alexus Ratcliffe and junior Kamiliah Meeks in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation category.
Finally, placing in the Bronze category at the FCCLA event, congratulations to junior Cheyanne Clark for placing in the Instructional Video category, junior Dakota Loan for placing in the Baking and Pastry category, sophomore Mattie Robinson for placing in the Food Innovations category, senior Zhyasia Singleton for placing in the Chapter in Review display, and junior Jackson Speers for placing in the Chapter Service Project display.
Congratulations to senior Katelynn Patterson for placing second in the Virginia School Board Art Contest on her piece entitled “Swimming with Beauty.”
Senior caps and gowns were delivered by Herff Jones to RCHS on April 19. Students were able to try on their graduation gowns, and then proceeded to the stadium to take a class picture.
The annual prom was held in the school’s gym on Saturday, with the theme of the dance being “The Oscars.” Prom royalty was crowned, and seniors Anna Rhodenizer and Landon Joines were crowned as prom queen and king. After the dance concluded, an after-prom party was held at Maury River Middle School, which was sponsored by the PTSA. The after-prom party was a substance-free event that was free to students to attend, and prizes, food, inflatable obstacles courses, a waffle and coffee bar, mechanical bull, and a caricature artist were available for students to participate in.
