The Rockbridge Regional Library’s bookmobile will be visiting the Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s grounds today, Wednesday, May 3, at 2:15 p.m. This will be a weekly Wednesday visit location for the bookmobile from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. Drop by the bookmobile to sign up for a library card, check out a book, and to learn more about what services are available to residents and to the community.
On Sunday, April 30, Burr Datz led the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The church’s children provided the anthem, joining together to sing “Jesus Loves Me.” Following the service, the congregation had the opportunity to join Lindsey Davis, one of the nurses in the congregation, in the fellowship hall to learn more about the first aid supplies the church has on hand should there be an injury or medical emergency. Information was shared about the location of the first aid kit, its contents, and the Automated External Defibrillator machine available. A second informational session will be held on Sunday, May 7, in the fellowship hall for those unable to attend on April 30.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church Night Circle will hold its May meeting tomorrow, Thursday, May 4, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A covereddish supper in the church kitchen will begin at 6:15 p.m. prior to the Bible study. The Bible study will air on Facebook Live on the church’s Facebook page.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Women will be celebrating their organization’s 101st birthday by receiving a monetary “Birthday Offering” on Sunday, May 14. A portion of the funds received will be used to build a second Making Miracles Group Home for young mothers and children in Tallahassee, Fla. The remaining funds will be donated to build additional facilities at Berhane Yesus Elementary School to expand their Kindergarten program in Dembi Dollo, Ethiopia. All are invited to join this birthday celebration. Gifts may be mailed to the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, 31 Church Drive, Lexington, VA 24450.
The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first barbecue chicken sale of the spring season on Saturday, May 13, beginning at noon. Chicken halves and whole dinners will be available for purchase. A chicken dinner will include a choice of two sides, a roll, applesauce and iced tea. The side choices will be green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. Chicken will be available until all is sold. Food items may be purchased as carryout but some seating for indoor dining will be available. Be sure to save the date!
The churches in the Buffalo and Collierstown communities will be hosting a joint Vacation Bible School at the Palmer Community Center the week of June 4-9. VBS has a western theme this year and will include classes for all ages. Families and area residents are invited to enjoy Bible study, crafts, and recreation at Summer Bible Round-Up Vacation Bible School.
