MRSS Fitness Room Reopens

Maury River Senior Services has reopened its fitness room with new, upgraded equipment for use by those 60 and older. With the guidance of Dr. Amy Hevener of Synergy Rehab and Wellness, new equipment and accessories have been added.

The MRSS fitness room includes a PhysioStep seated elliptical, NuStep seated stepper, NordicTrack treadmill, Sole standing elliptical, Sunny recumbent bicycle, and Marcy weight bench. Also available are a balance bar, hand weights, resistance bands, and weighted “medicine” balls.

Maury River staff will instruct users on safe operation of the equipment, but do not provide personal trainer services or design of an exercise program.

“Our hope is that people who already have an exercise program or are transitioning out of rehabilitative physical therapy will find our climatecontrolled, indoor facility to be useful in continuing toward their goal of physical fitness,” said Vicki Pickle, VPAS director of senior services for Rockbridge, Bath and Highland County.

Pickle added that the fitness room will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registration paperwork must be completed, and a form to be completed by a health care provider for users who are unsure about the effect of certain exercise on their health is required.

More information about the MRSS fitness room can be obtained by calling (540) 261-7474 or emailing Hillary Bennington, MRSS programs coordinator, at [email protected].
