Friday, May 5 -- Spotswood defeated the Rockbridge County High School girls soccer team 4-0 in a Valley District match in Lexington.
Maggie Thorpe scored twice for the Blazers (7-7, 5-2 Valley), while Nicole Syptak notched a goal and two assists. Sophia Perlozzo made 12 saves for the Wildcats (4-9, 1-5).
Spotswood struck for three goals in the first 17 minutes of the match. Gracyn Chandler converted Syptak's cross in the seventh minute to get the Blazers on the board. Thorpe finished from Syptak's through ball in the 16th minute, and Syptak would score on a free kick just moments later.
Thorpe's second goal came in the 52nd minute, putting the match well out of reach.
RC still created plenty of scoring chances, forcing six saves out of Blazer goalkeeper Sadie Mayhew. The 'Cats' best opportunity of the night came in the 69th minute, when Sophie Vaught made a long run up the right flank into the 18-yard box. But Mayhew recorded a terrific close-range stop, proceeding to pounce on the rebound in front of RC forward Sofia Smith.
The Wildcats are slated to travel to Turner Ashby on Tuesday, starting with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
