Monday, May 8 -- Both Rockbridge County High School lacrosse teams recorded convincing home wins over William Byrd, as the girls collected a 22-3 victory and the boys rolled to a 12-1 triumph.
In the girls' game, McKenzie Hines' 11-point night paced the Wildcats (10-1). Hines finished with four goals and seven assists, while Nala Shearer notched six goals and one assist and Lola Mulitalo recorded five goals, two assists and three caused turnovers.
Maddie Dahl also collected 14 draw controls to go along with three goals and one assist for RC, which jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage and led 13-2 by halftime.
Lily Youngman chipped in two goals and one assist for the Wildcats. Annika Hylton scored twice for the Terriers, and Barb Hernandez made six saves.
The RC defense dominated in the boys' contest, limiting Byrd to two shots in the first half and holding the Terriers off the scoreboard until the fourth quarter. Colby Jarvis led the Wildcats (6-6) with three caused turnovers, while Sawyer Hattersley and Milo Mulitalo registered two takeaways apiece.
After a goalless first quarter, the RC offense clicked into gear in the second period. River Hull was involved in all four Wildcat markers in the frame, scoring a pair and assisting on the other two as RC headed into halftime ahead 4-0. The Wildcats would outscore the Terriers 6-0 in the third quarter to pull away.
Jayden Layman totaled four goals for the 'Cats, while Quincy Speers and Alex Nye each bagged two goals. Hull finished with four points, and John Brooke notched two assists. Julian Pantoja made 16 saves for Byrd.
Both RC squads will face Hidden Valley on Wednesday. The boys travel to Roanoke for a 6 p.m. contest, while the girls will play host to the Titans at 7 p.m.
