The Rockbridge Area Relief Association will participate in the 31st annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 13. This food drive, the largest in the nation, is held in partnership with members of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Postal workers from post offices throughout Rockbridge County will collect donated canned and dry food items from local residents and deliver them to the Rockbridge Area Relief Association, as well as food pantries in Buena Vista and Glasgow. Last year’s drive brought in almost 4,000 pounds of non-perishable food to Rockbridge County.

To participate, all area residents need to do is leave their nonperishable food donation in a bag next to their mailbox before their typical mail delivery. RARA greatly appreciates all donations but items such as canned meat or fish, baby food and diapers, health and hygiene products, and dried fruits or nuts are in especially high-demand right now.

The donations will be processed and sorted by a team of volunteers on Saturday at RARA. Anyone who would like to volunteer or if he or she has any questions can contact the RARA programs manager at (540) 463-6943 or [email protected].
