Friday, May 12 -- The Rockbridge County High School boys lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 14-4 Senior Night victory over Franklin County in Lexington.
Four different players registered hat tricks as the Wildcats (8-6) earned their third straight win. Quincy Speers led the way for RC with three goals and three assists. Alex Nye had three goals and two helpers, while Andrew Kelly tallied three goals and one assist and River Hull also scored three times.
Mason McDill and Joseph Held notched two goals apiece for the Eagles (4-9).
McDill scored the first goal of the contest at the 9:14 mark of the first quarter, but the Wildcats took control with eight unanswered tallies to close out the half. Hull completed his hat trick before the break, while Nye and Speers each posted two markers in the first half.
The Eagles narrowed the gap to 8-3 early in the third quarter, but RC proceeded to outscore FC 6-1 the rest of the way.
John Brooke chipped in two goals for the Wildcats, and Jack Jensen made five saves. Brayden Scott led the Eagles' defense with a game-high four caused turnovers, also notching one assist, and Rusty Waldron totaled eight saves.
Prior to the game, RC honored its senior class: Hull, Colby Jarvis, Garrett Stillwell and team manager Emma Brooke.
The Wildcats will return to action in the Region 4D quarterfinals on Monday, May 22. RC has earned the No. 5 seed and will travel to fourth-seeded Jefferson Forest for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
