Waring Memorial Service Saturday

A memorial service for Avis Pick Waring will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church, Lexington. Friends are warmly invited by Libby and Doug Cumming, her daughter and son-in-law, as they return to Lexington to celebrate the life of this generous and accomplished woman.

Having moved from Florida to Kendal at Lexington in 2010, Avis Waring died Jan. 11, 2021, shortly after turning 100.

Born Dec. 29, 1920, in Oregon, she served in Occupied Japan after World War II as a Japanese-language translator and for the CIA for more than 20 years as an agricultural analyst covering several areas of the world. Her husband, Ronald F. Waring, died in 2002. She was a generous supporter of the universities she attended, as well as Washington and Lee University and Grace Episcopal Church. N-G
