The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee University men’s lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals, defeating Centre College 21-10 in the second round on Saturday and overcoming Grove City 13-10 on Sunday. Both games took place at W&L’s Wilson Field in Lexington.
The Generals (17-4), who had won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title the previous weekend, led 13-4 over Centre (13-4) at halftime and pulled away in the second half.
Hudson Porkorny led W&L with nine points, scoring five goals and dishing out four assists. Warren Seeds spent most of the time in goal for W&L and made six saves before Ryan Boyd finished the game and made one save.
Against Grove City (11-9), the Generals broke a 10-10 tie by scoring three goals in the final nine minutes of the game.
Brown led W&L with four goals, while Sam Mannino added three goals, Burns scored twice, and Pokorny dished out three assists. In goal, Seeds earned the win, making nine saves.
The Generals will appear in the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2004 on Saturday when they play at No. 2 Salisbury at noon.

Move On
The second-ranked W&L women’s lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament Round of 16 by earning a 22-5 win over Capital University in the Round of 32 on Sunday afternoon at W&L’s Alston Parker Watt Field in Lexington.
In the first meeting between W&L (19-1) and Capital (11-5), the Generals put two scores on the board in the first three minutes of action and didn’t give up the lead for the remainder of the game.
W&L’s Hanna Bishop led all scorers with four goals and two assists for six points and is up to the third-most points in a single season with 80.
Allie Schwab added a hat trick and two helpers for five points, and Claire Horner also recorded three scores, a career-high for the attacker.
The Generals outshot the Comets 38-16 and had an 18-10 advantage on groundballs. On the circle, W&L dominated the draw with a 22-9 advantage and Shannon Timoney controlled 10 of them, a career-high for the junior.
W&L registered 11 assists, the second most of any game this season, and 27 players saw the field.
Defender Eugenie Rovegno and Sam Van Belle each tallied three caused turnovers and Rovegno scooped up five groundballs for the Blue and White. For the tenth time this season, W&L’s defense held the opponent to five goals or less.
W&L goalkeepers Caroline Kranich and Stefanie Chiguluri evenly split six total saves. Kranich faced 11 shots in the first three quarters, and Chiguluri saw five in the final fifteen minutes of action.
The Generals will take on Gettysburg in the Round of 16 on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the location to be announced.
