By Jonathan Schwab Rockbridge County High School boys senior tennis player Matthew Feldman was the runner-up in the Valley District singles tournament on Tuesday of last week, and teammates Ben Barney and Nic Faulds competed in the district doubles tournament on Thursday. Both tournaments took place at Turner Ashby High School in Bridgewater.
In the district singles semifinals, Feldman defeated Broadway’s Tanner Fulk 7-5, 4-6 and 10-8 in a third-set tiebreak. Feldman then faced Spotswood’s Jackson Knight, with Knight earning a 6-4, 6-2 win.
Both Knight and Feldman advanced to the Region 3C tournament.
In the district doubles tournament, Barney, a senior, joined forces with Faulds, a sophomore. The duo lost to Broadway’s Fulk and Marshall Good, who battled out a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreak) and 10-7 win in a third-set tiebreaker. Fulk and Good lost to Spotswood’s Knight and Cameron Cooley in the finals.
