The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the patrons of its May 13 barbecue chicken sale. It was a sell-out. The income from the event will be used to serve the greater Effinger community and its families.
On Sunday, May 14, Burr Datz led the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. During the children’s time for discovery led by Rosalea Potter, a video prepared by the congregation’s children, who ranged in age from 3 to 56, described why they loved their mothers and the qualities they most admired about them. The women attending the service were given flowers following the service.
Also recognized during the worship hour were Harper Knick, daughter of Jade Knick and the late Bill Knick, who graduated from James Madison University on May 12 with a bachelor of science degree in health sciences. She will be attending graduate school at Virginia Tech in the fall pursuing a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in community health promotion and equity concentration.
Graduating on May 13 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering was Sarah Hildreth, daughter of Steve and Ruth Ann Hildreth. Sarah will begin employment with Millennium Space Systems in El Segundo, Calif., in July. Congratulations to Harper and Sarah!
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church will recognize on Sunday, May 21, four of its members who are graduating from Rockbridge County High School on May 25. Those high school seniors are Kelsie Caldwell, McKenzie Hines, Rachel Hines, and Paden Hines. Following the morning worship service, a time of fellowship and lemonade on the lawn will provide an opportunity for members and friends to extend congratulations to these four young people.
The annual community Memorial Day Service will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 12:30 p.m. on top of the cemetery hill at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The service will honor those who have served in the military and are buried in the church cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the same time in the church sanctuary.
Ella Belle Clark, Gatha Hall and their families invite you to a joint celebration marking Ella Belle’s 90th birthday on May 5 and Gatha’s 90th birthday on June 21. The celebration will be held at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. They request only the gift of your presence that day. Their children suggest showering them with cards or notes during this season of celebration. For those wishing to remember them by mail their addresses are Ella H. The churches in the Buffalo and Collierstown communities will be hosting a “Summer Bible Roundup” Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. the week of June 4-9 at the Palmer Community Center.
The Union View Advent Christian Church will hold its worship service on Sunday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at Lake Robertson. A traditional summer picnic for the membership and friends of the church will follow the service. Members are asked to “save the date,” bring friends, and several covered dishes to share. A summary of the Penny Drive supporting Christian teachers in foreign countries will be shared and discussed.
The Rockbridge Regional Library’s bookmobile is visiting the grounds of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church each week on Wednesdays from 2:15 to 4 p.m. Community residents are invited to come to the Bookmobile to check out books and learn more about the services available to residents and to the community.
