Memorial Day ceremonies are once again planned for Buena Vista and Lexington this weekend.
The first will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Oyler Pavilion at Glen Maury Park, sponsored by American Legion Post 126.
The speaker this year will be Dr. Paul Lilly, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and master of public health.
The Harrisonburg High School JROTC will serve as the color guard, under the direction of Army instructor Command Sgt. Maj. Russell Wilder.
On Monday, at 10 a.m., Col. Travis L. Homiak, commanding officer of the Navy ROTC unit at Virginia Military Institute, will be the guest speaker at the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the corner of Washington and Main streets in Lexington.
The ceremony is sponsored by the George C. Marshall Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.
The ceremony will also include entertainment by the music group Wonder, laying of a wreath in memory of those who died while serving in the U.S. military, and the playing of “Taps.”
