On Sunday, May 14, Burr Datz led the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The congregation celebrated Senior Sunday recognizing the following Rockbridge County High School seniors: Kelsie Caldwell, daughter of Seth and Marnie Caldwell; McKenzie Hines, Rachel Hines, and Paden Hines, the daughters and son of Jonathan and Kimberly Hines. Each was presented with an engraved English Standard Version Study Bible. Following the worship service, the congregation enjoyed lemonade on the lawn and a time of fellowship with the graduates and their families.
The Collierstown Community Memorial Day Service will be held on Sunday, May 28, at 12:30 p.m. on top of the cemetery hill at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The service will honor those who have served in the military and are buried in the church cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the same time in the church sanctuary.
The families of Ella Belle Clark and Gatha Hall invite you to a joint celebration marking their 90th birthdays on Sunday, May 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. They request only the gift of your presence that day. Their children suggest showering them with cards or notes during this season of celebration. The United Methodist Men will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. at the Collierstown Church on Saturday, May 27. The Collierstown Women in Faith will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 1, at 6 p.m. Amy Hayslette will lead the evening’s program. A rose bush in memory of Nancy Clark who passed away in March will be planted on the church grounds. She was a longtime member of the Collierstown UMC, serving faithfully in the Women of the Church.
The “Summer Bible Roundup” vacation Bible school is less than two weeks away. The community’s churches are hosting VBS at the Palmer Community Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m. the week of June 4-9. VBS has a Western theme this year with classes available for all ages and adults. Supper will be provided nightly. Registration can be done by scanning the QR code found on the VBS flyers at area businesses or at the sponsoring churches: Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, and the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church.
On Sunday, June 11, at 11 a.m., Union View Advent Christian Church will hold their worship service at Lake Robertson. A traditional summer picnic for the membership and friends of the church will follow the service. Members are asked to “save the date,” bring friends, and several covered dishes to share. A summary of the Penny Drive supporting Christian teachers in foreign countries will be shared and discussed.
The Rockbridge Regional Library’s bookmobile is visiting the grounds of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church each week on Wednesdays from 2:15 to 4 p.m.
