Under a plan adopted by Lexington City Council, Jefferson Street and a portion of Main Street would become one way. Additionally, directional changes were planned for McDowell, Preston and White streets. - Senator Harry F. Byrd Jr. addressed the graduating class of 1973 at Virginia Military Institute. “I am absolutely opposed to sending so much as a dime of American tax funds to North Vietnam,” he said to thunderous applause. - Lexington turned down the county public service authority’s bid to supply water to the new Birdfield subdivision. The city would serve the subdivision directly with both water and sewer.

Skip Thompson moved his barbershop from its location under the old First National Bank building to 17 S. Randolph St. after the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to demolish the building and replace it with a three-story courts facility.
- Louis F. “Weenie” Miller died in a Virginia Beach hospital. He was 81. Miller coached basketball at Washington and Lee University for one season before moving over to VMI. - Del. Ben Cline was present when Gov. Mark Warner signed into law a bill Cline sponsored that would make it easier for lower income seniors to afford their prescription medications.
