SVU’s Claytor Named All-Conference
Southern Virginia University freshman first baseman Katie Claytor, a 2022 Parry McCluer High School graduate, was named to the USA South All-Conference First Team.
Claytor, a Buena Vista native, tallied five home runs, a program high for a freshman, and tied for the sixth most in the conference. She also recorded 22 RBIs—another record for a first-year player—while batting .309. Defensively, Claytor led the conference with 243 total chances, recording the second most putouts in the USA South with 204 and 33 assists for a .975 fielding percentage.
She was one of four SVU players who were selected to the USA South All-Conference First Team, the most in program history. The others were senior utility player Krystal Kemp, junior shortstop Adisen Webster and sophomore second baseman Dykell Jones. SVU went 20-20 this season and 6-12 in the USA South Conference.
W&L Men Fall To Salisbury In NCAA Quarters
No. 2 Salisbury defeated the ninth-ranked Washington and Lee University men’s lacrosse team 12-9 in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals in Salisbury, Md. on Saturday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls took an early 5-2 advantage, going on to stretch the margin to 9-3 at the 9:37 mark of the third quarter. The Generals (18-5) scored five of the next six goals to make it 10-8 with 11:23 to play, but that was as close as the visitors would come in their first national quarterfinal appearance since 2004.

Alex Brown scored three goals to lead W&L, and Warren Seeds registered 14 saves. Hillis Burns finished with two goals and two assists for the Generals, while Joey Allen added a pair of goals.

Gettysburg Downs W&L Women In Round Of 16
Ninth-ranked Gettysburg upset second-ranked W&L 11-8 in the third round of the Division III women’s lacrosse tournament in Lexington on Saturday.
The Bullets never trailed in avenging an overtime home loss against the Generals (19-2) from the regular season.
Julia Daly scored five of her game-high six goals in the first half to help Gettysburg build up a 7-3 halftime lead. W&L trimmed the margin to two goals on multiple occasions after the break, but could come no closer as the Bullets ended the Generals’ season for the second straight year. Gettysburg beat W&L 8-4 in the quarterfinal round in Pennsylvania in 2022.
Allie Schwab totaled two goals and one assist for W&L, while Shannon Timoney and Claire Horner chipped in two goals apiece. Katie Fullowan had two goals and one assist for the Bullets, and Gillian Cortese made nine saves.
Gettysburg (18-4) would book a return trip to the national semifinals with a commanding 17-8 win over York (Pa.) in Sunday’s quarterfinal game, also played at W&L.
