Wednesday, May 31 -- The Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse team will take on Powhatan in the Class 4 state quarterfinals on Friday.
Game time is set for 6 p.m. at The Fields at Southern Virginia University.
The Wildcats (15-1) enter the state tournament after earning their third consecutive Region 4D title. RC collected the regional crown with a thrilling 10-9 overtime win over Salem in the championship game in Buena Vista last Friday.
The Indians (13-4) secured their spot in the state playoffs by reaching the Region 4A finals. In Tuesday's regional championship, Powhatan fell 17-9 to undefeated Western Albemarle (16-0).
The winner of Friday's quarterfinal contest will advance to face either Western or Salem (11-5-1) in the state semifinals, which are slated to be played either June 6 or 7. The Class 4 championship game is set for Saturday, June 10.
RC and Powhatan met in last year's Class 4 quarterfinals in Lexington, with the Wildcats claiming a 16-5 victory.
