Sunday, June 4 -- Rockbridge County High School and Western Albemarle will meet for the third straight year in the VHSL Class 4 girls lacrosse semifinals.
The Wildcats will travel to Crozet on Tuesday, with game time set for 5:30 p.m.
RC (16-1) collected its third consecutive Region 4D championship this spring, going on to defeat Region 4A runner-up Powhatan 12-5 in the state quarterfinals in Buena Vista on Friday. The Warriors (16-0) secured the Region 4A title in May, and they bested Region 4D runner-up Salem 17-7 at home in the Class 4 quarterfinal round on Saturday.
Western claimed a 9-8 overtime victory over RC in Lexington back on March 29. The Wildcats trailed 7-3 at halftime of that contest, rallying to tie the game in the waning moments of the second half.
The Warriors have also defeated RC in each of the past two state semifinal matchups, including a 12-11 win in Lexington in last year's meeting.
Tuesday's winner will advance to face either Meridian or Dominion in the Class 4 final, which is slated to take place at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Dominion beat Western 16-7 in last year's state championship game.
