The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors has scheduled public hearings this Monday, June 12, for the county’s six-year secondary road plan and an agreement on how capital expenses and operational costs for the planned health and human services building will be divided among the three jurisdictions.
Susan Hammond, VDOT’s resident engineer, met with the supervisors during a work session May 22 to discuss details of the six-year road plan. Funding for the upcoming secondary road projects will be $478,299 in fiscal year 2024 and is projected to be $2,865,386 over the next six years, from FY24 to FY29.
Capital costs for the health and human services building are to be divided among the three localities by population. Division of the operational costs for the Rockbridge Area Department of Social Services is to be based on a combination of usage and population of the three localities. Agreements with additional agencies that may locate in the building are to be negotiated individually.
The building is to be located in Buena Vista behind the 911 central dispatching center and Food Lion at the intersection of U.S. 60 East and Forge Road.
Rezoning OK’d
A rezoning was approved May 22 for a parcel of land at 2329 N. Lee Highway so plans for construction of a warehouse can proceed. The 4.92 acres was rezoned from agricultural transitional (A-T) to general business (B-1). Land on either side of the parcel is already zoned B-1.
Eric Spencer of Kingfisher Properties LLC requested the rezoning for the land, which is on the west side of North Lee Highway, .7-of-a-mile south of the intersection with Valley Pike. The warehouse is to be used to store building materials for Spencers Home Center.
