Pressure Canner Testing Available
Vegetable gardens are growing and soon many Rockbridge residents will be enjoying fruits and vegetables they or their generous n e ig hbo r s grow. If you preserve food using a pressure canner you should make sure your canner is performing as it should.
Virginia Cooperative Extension is offering a free clinic where you can have your pressure canner’s gauge tested for accuracy and effectiveness at our Rockbridge Extension Office Thursday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. The office is located at 150 S. Main St., Lexington on the second floor of the County Administrative Offices Building.
Pressure canners will be inspected and gauges tested to ensure they are reading the proper pressure. We will have canning publications, too! Becky Gartner, Extension agent (Family and Consumer Sciences), will be available to answer any questions you may have. For more information, please call Becky at (540) 564-3080 or by email at [email protected].
If you are a person with a disability and desire any assistive devices, services or other accommodations to participate in the canning pressure gauge test, please contact Becky at the Rockingham Extension office (540) 564-3080 during business hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to discuss accommodations by Friday, June 16. TDD number is (800) 828-1120.
