Kendal at Lexington is the 2023 recipient of the Virginia LeadingAge Workplace Excellence Award. This award recognizes a community that demonstrates investment in its staff and the workplace environment for the delivery of quality care and services.
LeadingAge Virginia is an association that represents non-profit entities that provide a full continuum of older adult services, such as the Kendal at Lexington Life Plan Retirement Community. LeadingAge Virginia’s mission is expanding the world of possibilities for aging and envisions positive aging for each Virginian.
According to the award application, the applicant must also use innovation in its workforce development practices, and the nominee must validate the effectiveness of excellent workforce development through “achievement in staff retention, encourage employee professional growth and develop positive community changes from staff assessments.”
“We were specifically chosen based on the work we have done with pay, benefits and career advancement; staff involvement in our staff idea pitching competition event and the feedback and implementation from our WeCareConnect surveys; the Wisdom of the Whole leadership training and staff development/education and our staff appreciation programs,” said Jan Bigelow, Kendal at Lexington CEO.
In a contest held last fall, staff members or teams pitched their best ideas to enhance the employee experience. Read more about the contest on the Kendal at Lexington website at //bit. ly/contestkalex.
Bigelow traveled to Norfolk on June 7 to accept the award on behalf of Kendal at Lexington.
“We are thankful for the staff and residents who continue to help us improve practices and raise expectations,” said Bigelow. “This award only affirms what we already know: Kendal at Lexington continues to be a wonderful place to live and work.”
