Dr. Malcolm Tenney, district health director, reminded residents to use caution when dealing with ticks, which were in abundance at the time. He recommended either burning a tick or flushing it down the toilet. - Horror fans were in for a treat at Hull’s Drive-in. “Revenge of the Living Dead,” “Curse of the Living Dead” and “Fangs of the Living Dead” were playing in a triple feature. - Glasgow resident Emma June D. McDermott was named the Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates from the 9th House District by a special committee appointed by the district Democratic Convention in Bedford.

About 110 residents – an estimated one-third from the Kerrs Creek area – gathered at Big Spring to hear about the geology and hydrology of the spring. Nestle was considering extracting water from the spring and setting up a bottling plant nearby. - Members of the class of 2003 at Rockbridge County High School were each given crayons by Principal Andrew Bryan, a symbolic gift of the students’ creative spirit. - Rockbridge County High School was given a fiberglass wildcat constructed by Mark Cline and painted by Matthew St. Clair and Chris Johnson.
