Aug. 27, 1935 – Aug. 30, 2022 Happy Heavenly Father’s Day to the second Sweetest Man who ever walked this Earth!

We love and miss you so, so much, Dad.

Love, Angela, Lisa and F.T.

Freddie Thomas Johnson, 87, formerly of Buena Vista, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022.

Fred, fondly known as Freddie, was born to Roy and Juliet Johnson on Aug. 27, 1935, in Buena Vista. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Shirley Foster Johnson; two brothers, Jimmy and Ronnie; and his son-in-law Hootie Dunlap.

Left to cherish his memory are his three children - Angela Radick (Jim), Lisa Dunlap and Fred “F.T.” (Angela); four grandchildren – Bridges Spiva (Jay), Andrew Dunlap (Sara), Kate Hedges (Douglas) and April Dunlap; four great-grandchildren – Wagner and Waylon Spiva, Foster and Watts Hedges; brother Kenny (Bridgett); niece Sheila Johnson; nephews Kevin and Sammy Johnson; and his much-loved fur babies – Sydney and Jackson.

Freddie also leaves behind five special and dedicated friends whom we would like to thank for their amazing love and care throughout Dad’s illness: caregivers Nancy Byers, Betty Barbour and Edith Burkitt; and longtime friends Ernie and Linda Spiva.

Freddie was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School, a lifelong member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church and worked his entire career as a chemist at Reeves Brothers. A few of his favorite hobbies included working in his garden, dancing, music, horseshoes, laughing and rooting for the Redskins (Commanders).

Most of all, Fred was a loving father and family man, a good listener, a good man and a good friend. We have been truly blessed to have always had his unconditional love.

Following Freddie’s death, a graveside service was officiated by Derek Keiser at Greenhill Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. A celebration of Freddie’s life was held afterwards at the Buena Vista Rescue Squad. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to everyone who has reached out to pay tribute to our father.
