Gardner Graduates From Virginia Tech

Josh Gardner, son of Dr. Richard and Naomi Gardner and son-in-law of Roger Brown and the late Wanda Foster, graduated summa cum laude on May 13 from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science degree in materials science and engineering.

While at Virginia Tech, Gardner was inducted into the Tau Sigma Academic Honor Society, completed a research internship with Dr. Xiaoting Jia fabricating composite fibers with integrated smart materials, worked as a grading assistant for Dr. Levon Asryan, and worked with graduate students in Dr. Guo-Quan Lu’s electronic materials research lab.

He will continue working as a research assistant with Dr. Lu over the summer designing high voltage power control modules used in electric vehicles and will formally begin graduate school in August in Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering on an accelerated Ph.D. track to pursue a doctorate in materials engineering.

Gardner has also earned an associate of arts and sciences degree in general studies and an associate of science degree in engineering with certification in Mechatronics from the former Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in 2012 and Virginia Western Community College in 2020, respectively.

He is a 2011 graduate of Parry McCluer High School. He lives in Arnolds Valley with his wife Karyn.
