Wow, what a storm that rolled into town on Friday afternoon! Wind, rain and hail, downed trees, or tree limbs, moved outbuildings and even the porta-john at the Farmers Market moved about 4 feet. Most of the damage was located on Kanawha and Virginia streets and down towards the river. I only heard of one household being without power for awhile, which is amazing. I didn’t hear of any injuries due to the downed trees. The Randy Smith home on Virginia Street had a tree fall on part of his place. Members of the fire department went door to door checking on folks.
On a personal note, this writer had put the house windows down to about an inch open, and had water in the living room floor and the bed clothes got soaked as the fierce winds blew through that little inch opening in the windows. Our chimney topper also blew off onto the roof and the flowers took a beating, but otherwise we were OK.
