Fourteen retiring employees were acknowledged at this month’s Rockbridge County School Board meeting.
From the Central Office, there are three employees retiring at the end of the fiscal year. Cindy Luck has worked as the special education secretary for 33.1 years. Monica Rexrode has served 26.8 years as a personnel specialist, and Daphne Stickley, who is the retiree recognized with the most hours served with the school system, is retiring from her duties as the superintendent of school nutrition after 36.7 years.
Three bus drivers are retiring. Lonna Dudley drove for the district for 24.1 years, Larry Sensabaugh drove for 13.7 years, and Herman Snyder is retiring after nine years of transporting students safely to and from school.
Within the school buildings, there are eight retirees. From Natural Bridge Elementary School, Bryan Barbour is retiring from his custodian post after 9.3 years.
Tina Bauernfeind is leaving her post at Fairfield Elementary School after 20.9 years. She served as a clerical aide.
Mountain View Elementary School secretary Violet Vest is retiring after 25 years.
From Maury River Middle School, teacher Chris Wood is leaving the district after 32.8 years.
Rockbridge County High School is saying farewell to four employees. From the maintenance department, Bill Kessinger is retiring after 31 years. Cynthia Littleton is retiring as the assistant principal after working at the high school for 34 years. Angela Wilder will be retiring as the director of alternative education after working at RCHS for eight years. School secretary Lisa Zitmore is leaving the front office after 26.5 years.
Cumulatively, these district employees dedicated 340 years to the education of students in Rockbridge County, Superintendent Phillip Thompson said at the School Board meeting.
RCSB Chair Neil Whitmore commented, “They have dedicated their lives to teaching and mentoring our young people. Their impact will be felt for years ahead throughout the division.”
