Six Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse were named all-state last week, following the Wildcats’ third consecutive Region 4D championship and their third consecutive trip to the Class 4 state semifinals.
Four Wildcats were selected to the all-state first team: senior midfielder McKenzie Hines, the Region 4D player of the year; senior goalie Rachel Hines, junior attacker Nala Shearer and junior defender Libba Erskine. The Hines sisters are preparing to play college lacrosse at the Division I level, with McKenzie headed to Radford University and Rachel going to Liberty University.
Two Wildcats, freshman attacker Lola Mulitalo and senior defender Jaden McCoy, were named to the all-state second team.
Under the direction of head coach Susan Nye, the Wildcats went 16-2 this year, losing only to Western Albemarle, which went on to win the Class 4 state title. Western Albemarle beat RC 9-8 in overtime in late March before ending RC’s season by dealing the visiting Wildcats a 16-10 loss in the Class 4 state semifinals on June 6. The Wildcats had 11 all-region selections.
