June 22, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: We are excited to share with your readers recent transformations at VFW Post 1499. We take immense pride in our long history of service, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of veterans in the Lexington/Rockbridge County area.
Local veterans have shown exceptional dedication to our nation, and we invite them to join us in our ongoing mission to support one another and all the veterans in our area. Their active involvement in VFW Post 1499 is crucial to our success.
While we understand that veterans may have many commitments, we believe that being an active VFW member is important. Our post was established in 1927 by World War I veterans and is fortunate to have today a diverse group of veterans from various conflicts taking on leadership roles. Monthly meetings have seen excellent attendance, but we know we can do even better with other veterans’ help.
We encourage all of our veterans to attend our meetings, share their ideas, and participate in our engaging and informative programs. Our monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW post building (105 Memorial Lane, Lexington, on U.S. 60). All eligible VFW members are welcome, and we encourage veterans to bring along any eligible friends. The eligibility link can be found at https://www.vfw. org/join/eligibiity.
The sustainability of our organization relies on the support of younger veterans. Many of our current members are Vietnam veterans who experienced a challenging transition back to civilian life. They’ve made it their mission to ensure that veterans from all conflicts are treated with the respect they deserve. The involvement of younger members in Post 1499 will help make the Lexington/Rockbridge County area a better place for all veterans.
For those who have been a member in the past, we warmly invite them to renew their membership with the National VFW and designate Post 1499 as their post. We invite them and all of our veterans to join us for our monthly meetings and help us make a difference in the lives of our fellow veterans. DAVID KUROSKI Commander, VFW Post 1499 SUZANNE E.
