Former Rockbridge area resident Cat Lambert has been appointed assistant professor of classics at Cornell University.

Lambert is a 2011 graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, where she played soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She received a bachelor of arts degree in classics, magna cum laude, in 2015 from Princeton University, where she played rugby. She taught Greek and Latin and coached boys’ rugby for one year as the Annenberg Fellow at Eton College, before matriculating to Columbia University, where she received a Ph.D. in classics in 2022.

Lambert’s research brings book history, queer theory and gender studies to bear on Latin and Greek literature. Her forthcoming book, “Bad Readers and Ancient Rome,” blends book history with feminist, queer and critical theory to demonstrate how readers are marked by and reproduce gendered and class dynamics.

She is the daughter of Demaree Peck of Lexington and Kenneth Lambert of Collierstown.
