Men’s Bible Study continues to meet on Wednesday mornings at 7 at Sweet Treats in Lexington. They are studying “You are Not Your Own” by O. Alan Noble.
Speaking of “You are Not Your Own,” the ladies evening circle is reading and discussing Noble’s book during their monthly meetings. The June meeting was held last Wednesday at the Clark house. The July meeting will be on Monday, July 17, at Joann Blouin’s home. The July reading assignment is pages 63-115.
The Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club met at New Monmouth on June 20. Cindy Durham, district governor, was one of our guests. She reported the Natural Bridge District Convention will be held at Boys Home on Nov. 4. Cindy presented Janet Drake, secretary, and Felicia Bush, treasurer, with gift certificates from Ruritan National for all of their outstanding work.
Isabella Branch and her family were in attendance. Isabella was our 83rd anniversary scholarship winner. We wish her much success as she attends college to become a geologist. Maliyah Hickling was the recipient of the Garrett Moore Scholarship, Giann McKeeman won the Louise Swink Scholarship and McKenzie Hines was awarded the Harry Moore Scholarship. They were unable to attend, but we wish them all success.
The Ruritans had their chuckwagon at the Balloons Over Rockbridge event.
The club will hold a Charitable Golf Tournament on Aug. 8 at the Lexington Country Club to raise funds for scholarships for our local graduating high school seniors.
We are soliciting hole sponsors for the tournament. For a $125 contribution, a business, organization, or individual, will have their name posted on a sign on one of the tee boxes. Non-deductible contributions may be made to the Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club or to The Ruritan National Foundation, 501-c-3 organization - these contributions are tax deductible. Whichever way you want to contribute, make your check payable to the club or the foundation. Send contributions to Gary Swink at 1195 Still House Drive, Lexington, VA 24450. The net proceeds will be split between scholarships given by Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club and The Ruritan National Foundation, which provides scholarships through the Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club and other local Ruritan Clubs. All five local clubs utilize this program.
The foundation’s purpose is to maintain a trust for educational and benevolent purposes. The foundation will match a local club’s contribution of $300 (in 2023 the match was $350.00).
The July club meeting will be at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church at 6:30 on July 18.
