On Sunday, July 2, Rachel Jones was the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. Following the worship service, lemonade on the lawn was provided by the Christian Education Committee .
The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first chicken barbecue sales event of the summer on Saturday, July 15 beginning at noon. Chicken halves and whole dinners will be available for purchase. A chicken dinner will include a choice of two sides, a roll, applesauce, and iced tea. The side choices will be green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. Food items may be purchased as carryout but some seating for indoor dining will be available.
The fire department is also holding a raffle to raise funds needed to support its work in serving the community. This year’s summer raffle features 27 prizes with the first prize being $5,000. Raffle tickets are available at a cost of $1 for a single ticket, $5 for six tickets or $10 for a book of 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased from any fire department member. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the chicken barbecue. The drawing of raffle winners will occur at 5 p.m.
The Rockbridge Regional Library’s bookmobile returns to the grounds of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church today, July 5. It is always there on Wednesdays from 2:15 to 4 p.m. except for the fourth Wednesday of each month.
The Rockbridge Area Health Center’s mobile medical unit will be at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department on July 18 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The unit offers a variety of services that include preventative/ wellness health services, screenings, immunizations, chronic disease management, acute/sick care, women’s healthcare, pediatric services, and substance use disorder treatment.
