Charles Campbell Armstrong, 86, of Buena Vista, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 30, 2023.

He was born in Timber Ridge on March 29, 1937, son of the late Charles Raymond and Sabina Pennington Armstrong.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Jefferson Armstrong; two brothers, James H. Armstrong and William L. Armstrong; and a nephew, Raymond Edward “Eddie” Armstrong.

Charles was a lifelong member of Timber Ridge “Old Stone” Presbyterian Church where he served as a youth leader, deacon, elder and treasurer. He retired from Bontex, Inc., where he was employed for over 50 years.

He enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and neighbors and caring for his dog Mavis.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice “Charlene” Hostetter Armstrong; a daughter, Elizabeth S. “Beth” Armstrong; sisters-in-law Mattie D. Armstrong, Jean S. Armstrong, Joan T. Bell and June T. Thompson; a brother-in-law, Woodrow W. “Woody” Tomlin; two nephews, W. Christopher Armstrong and Michael L. Armstrong; and a special granddaughter, Brett Ellen Turpin.

The family would like to thank the many friends and family who have helped with his care over the past several months.

A service will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Cathcart Thursday, July 6, at 2 p.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Timber Ridge “Old Stone” Presbyterian Church at 3:30 p.m. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the church community building.
