The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first barbecue chicken sales event of the summer on Saturday, July 15, beginning at noon. Chicken halves and whole dinners will be available for purchase. A chicken dinner will include a choice of two sides, a roll, applesauce and iced tea. T he side choices will be green beans, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad and coleslaw. Chicken will be available until all is sold. Food items may be purchased as carryout but some seating for indoor dining will be available.
The fire department is also holding its summer raffle drawing on Saturday, July 15, at 5 p.m. at the firehouse. The raffle features 27 prizes with the first prize being $5,000. Tickets will be sold until 5 p.m. when the drawing begins. Raffle tickets are available at a cost of $1 for a single ticket, $5 for six tickets or $10 for a book of 12 tickets. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any fire department member.
On Sunday, July 9, Frank Root was the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. Following the worship service lemonade on the lawn was provided by the Christian Education Committee.
The Rockbridge Area Health Center’s mobile medical unit will be at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department on July 18 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The unit offers a variety of services that include preventative/wellness health services, screenings, immunizations, chronic disease management, acute/sick care, women’s healthcare, pediatric services and substance use disorder treatment. The Effinger community joined with the family of Nadine Reynolds Goodbar in celebrating her life on Wednesday, July 5, following her death on June 29. Nadine was a native of Collierstown, a graduate of Effinger High School and a longtime employee of Kroger in Lexington. She was a committed Christian and an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church. Nadine loved sharing her faith and serving her community as a member of the Lexington Lifesaving Crew Auxiliary. Gardening and doing her own lawn care were hobbies she truly enjoyed. Nadine’s quiet strength and her commitment to her family, friends, and faith are a lasting legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
